The STeW club was born in January 2017. A year later, in 2018, it had 36 members.
But what’s going on in this club?
Nothing mysterious – four high points during the year when members meet and exchange their skills. Each one brings an ingredient, a spice; and mixing does the rest! This is the philosophy of the club, whose name “STeW” means to simmer in English. Everyone contributes; the cluster identifies and provides the missing skills: technologies, project leaders, technical and economic information, knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise in generating projects.
In 2018, the club gave birth to several projects: An industrial prototyping project of a textile sensor (thanks to the design); a project currently being set up on connected textiles (centred on connectivity and resulting from printing electronics); a work group on the theme of textiles and energy, and many others …
The club radiates well beyond its own members: In 2018, the members were able to exhibit their know-how during the WEARABLE LAB show at Première Vision in Paris, SMART FABRIC of the IFAI (Industrial Fabric Association International) in Dallas and the SIDO show (Internet of Things). The club also organised a conference at the CARNOT meetings on the theme of intelligent textiles.
The STeW club is also a place for meeting others: five startups presented their projects, and their textile needs. The members discovered skills: the CITILAB laboratory – a specialist in connected objects and data transmission, ELKEM – a specialist in high value-added silicones.
The DGA (the French Army Department) also came to present to club members the trends and needs of the army as regards connected textiles.
Add to that an interview with KURARAY, the manufacturer of connected thread, another with the DITF, one of the largest textile laboratories in Europe; convivial moments around a buffet, bursts of laughter, ideas and ambitions …
