The technical textile solutions company “Ino-Rope” has significantly contributed to a major historic discovery: the location of the wreck of the Endurance, the legendary ship of explorer Ernest Shackleton.
Commissioned by “Deep Ocean Search Ltd”, Ino-Rope has designed straps made of Dyneema to equip underwater drones intended to operate in extreme polar conditions. These textile solutions had to meet very specific requirements: resistance to intense cold, ice and chafing.
The ropes developed demonstrated their effectiveness by enabling the deployment and optimal operation of the underwater drones that ultimately located the wreck, which had been lost in the Antarctic ice for over a century.
This success illustrates the ability of Ino-Rope to design high-performance equipment for extreme environments, opening the way to new perspectives as regards underwater exploration.
