SIGVARIS is evolving the design of its medical compression devices by increasingly integrating environmental considerations into its innovation process. The new generation of *Style Marinières* — striped socks that embody the company’s commitment to French manufacturing — illustrates this approach, which is based on an analysis of the product’s entire lifecycle.
The company has undertaken a comprehensive industrial redesign to reduce environmental impact while upholding the rigorous safety, quality, and traceability standards required for medical devices. Key elements of this approach include the use of recycled materials and the adoption of a new waterless dyeing process, which minimises resource consumption and the use of chemical substances.
Compared to the previous generation, the new model achieves a 36% reduction in CO₂-equivalent emissions and an 89% decrease in water consumption per pair.
This initiative is underpinned by a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), used to objectively measure environmental impact and guide design and production decisions. Eco-design thus becomes a powerful driver of innovation, enabling the evolution of processes and materials while meeting the specific constraints of the medical sector.
