CETIA is the first innovation centre (platform) entirely dedicated to the automated sorting and dismantling of end-of-life or unsold textile and footwear products.
Created in 2021 by the ESTIA engineering school and CETI, CETIA was born from a shared desire: to accelerate the development of a competitive European textile-to-textile recycling sector. Today, it supports brands, collectors-sorters and material processors in their innovation efforts.
Its mission: to overcome technological barriers and drive innovation towards generating, on an industrial scale, sources of secondary raw materials for textile-to-textile recycling.
Currently, the preparation of these sources still relies largely on manual processes, hindering their mass production. Scaling up to industrial scale therefore depends on fully automating the sorting, dismantling, identification and preparation stages of the materials.
CETIA develops and validates these technologies; demonstrates their performance and effectiveness; and then ensures their industrial transfer to make their use more widespread.
It also supports its partners in the design and deployment of innovative solutions, contributing to the upgrading of the textile and leather supply streams.
The main CETIA lines available for testing and mini-production:
- Re-SHOES: an industrial pilot for the automated sorting and separation of shoe soles; opening the way for a new era in shoe recycling.
- ID SHOES: a pilot for sorting shoes by brand, type and product reference.
- ID CLOTHES: an intelligent sorting pilot to quickly direct clothing towards the best recovery pathway; including an assessment of the item’s complexity.
