When DIATEX textile engineering meets the demands of the large: 2000 kg/m² of controlled resistance

22 . 04 . 2026

2000 kg/m² resistance in a marine environment: this is the performance level achieved during the reconstruction of the rear wing of the Ocean Fifty Elvest trimaran, relaunched on March 17, 2026, nearly five months after its capsize during the 2025 Transat Café L’Or.

For this project, a fabric covering process, typically used in the aeronautics industry, was implemented by DIATEX. Applied to a carbon structure, it involves several steps: surface preparation, application of a heat-shrinkable technical fabric. and then finishing before painting. The result is a flexible, homogeneous covering capable of withstanding high mechanical stresses in a marine environment.

This project is part of a larger phase of reconstruction and upgrades for the trimaran, skippered by Matthieu Perraut and Sébastien Rogues, which is now equipped with a new mast, new sails, and redesigned ergonomics.

Beyond this specific case, this project illustrates the possible bridges between industrial sectors, particularly the transfer of solutions from the aeronautics industry to the nautical industry, to meet increased performance and reliability requirements.
