Techtera and the European Union Strategy for the Alpine Region “EUSALP”

20 . 11 . 2024

EUSALP (European Union strategy for the Alpine region), consists of the regions of seven countries in the Alpine chain. A total of 48 regions are represented, including the four French regions: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Compté, Grand Est, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

Context and objectives of SUERA

EUSALP is a macro-regional mechanism for European territorial cooperation. Its aim is to promote interregional exchanges; in order to cooperate on common issues, and strengthen cohesion within the Alpine Region. Topics include the environment, economic development, training, accessibility, and mobility.

Techtera’s role and involvement in SUERA

Techtera has been involved in EUSALP since 2022, taking part in the action group dedicated to the economic development of the Alps. The cluster represents the textile industry, and is particularly involved in the theme of the circular economy, which is a central priority of EUSALP. Textiles have been identified as one of the four key sectors in this area. Also, Techtera’s roadmap is largely aligned with other EUSALP priorities, such as digitalisation. By strengthening its participation in this initiative, Techtera aims to increase its impact in the double transition of the textile industry on an international scale: to expand its cooperation network, and consolidate the involvement of French textiles in macro-regional strategies.

This involvement in Alpine cooperation has already allowed Techtera to connect to a new network and adopt new joint strategies; for example, as a partner in the AlpTextyles project, dedicated to Alpine textile heritage and the sustainability of the industry. New partnerships have been established with public policy organisations, academic institutions and research centres.

Links with new partners have been created, with public policy, academic and research organisations. The cluster also benefits from a new space to consolidate existing relationships with some of its usual partners, such as the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, the Polymeris competitiveness cluster, the Mountain Cluster, and the Italian CS-POINTEX cluster.

Meanwhile, the Aster project (in which Techtera is a partner) on the management of textile and plastic waste in the Alpine region was launched last September.
